SEBASTIAN — A 5-year-old girl who was struck by a vehicle while trick-or-treating with family members on Halloween night, is recovering at a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Sebastian police said poor visibility contributed to the crash that happened as trick-or-treaters walked along the darkened roadway. The driver of the Honda sedan – 21-year-old Taylor Booth – was not speeding and was determined to not be at fault for the collision.
“It was dark out when (the crash) happened,” police spokesman Lt. Timothy Wood said.
The girl was walking north on the side of the road about 8:22 p.m. Wednesday when she was struck in the 1100 block of Barber Street, Wood said. Her family members were walking in a grassy area nearby.
“There was no sidewalk (on the east side) and there is not much of a shoulder,” Wood said. Booth, who was not hurt, remained at the crash site when first responders arrived.
The girl was taken by ambulance to the Sebastian River Medical Center, Wood said. She was then taken to the Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children for further evaluation.
Further details on the crash were not available.
