VERO BEACH — Several agencies, including the FBI along with a bomb squad, searched a JetBlue plane from Boston after the Vero Beach-bound flight received a bomb threat on Saturday, March 14, according to the Vero Beach Police Department. No injuries were reported aboard the commercial flight that landed at the Vero Beach Regional Airport, officers said.
“The airplane was rendered safe and then taxied to the terminal to allow for passenger disembarkation,” Vero Beach police said in a statement.
Officers stationed at the Vero Beach Regional Airport were notified about noon by Boston law enforcement of a bomb threat. The threat targeted a JetBlue flight traveling from the Boston Logan International Airport and scheduled to land at the Vero Beach Regional Airport, 3400 Cherokee Drive, according to police.
The plane landed safely at a runway – north of the main terminal – inside the Vero Beach airport and became stationary. Vero Beach police requested assistance from the FBI, St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, Indian River County Fire Rescue and the City of Vero Beach operations staff.
“A bomb dog search was conducted of the airplane while the passengers were on board,” police said in a statement. “Additionally, the passengers’ luggage was removed from the plane and searched separately by the bomb dog.”
It was not immediately clear if the threat was deemed credible. The incident remains under investigation.
In December, JetBlue became the second commercial airline to operate out of the Vero Beach Regional Airport, bringing regular passenger service to and from Boston and New York.
