Last-minute voters have until 7 p.m. to cast their ballots for the 2020 Presidential Election.
“If you don’t participate, you don’t have a voice,” Indian River County Supervisor of Elections Leslie Swan said.
County voters will pick their top candidate for the commander-in-chief position, along with the next Indian River County Sheriff and three Vero Beach City Council seats. The election comes in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, and nearly a week after Donald Trump Jr. campaigned in Indian River County for his father, President Donald Trump.
Election day polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday in Indian River County. Voters must cast their ballots at the precincts where they reside, according to the Indian River County Supervisor of Elections website.
Getting voters “in-and-out” to cast their ballots on election day has run smoothly so far, Swan said. By 1 p.m., more than 9,900 residents had hit the polls Tuesday in Indian River County.
There have been no reports of suspicious activity so far, officials said.

Indian River County has 36 voting precincts. Residents can find their voting location by visiting the supervisor of elections website.
The polling location at American Legion Hall Post 189 was shut down Monday night because of COVID-19, election officials said. It was unclear if a member of the veterans organization or a regular citizen tested positive for the virus.
The Elections office was notified on November 2 at 9:30 P.M. that our American Legion Hall Post 189 (807 Louisiana Ave, Seb., FL 32958) polling location has been shutdown due to COVID. The polling location was moved to Sebastian Elk’s Lodge, 731 S. Fleming Street, early Tuesday before polls opened for election day. Masks are not required, but strongly encouraged at the polls, Swan said.
“We won’t turn away voters if they don’t wear masks,” Swan said. Election workers and poll watchers will be wearing masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Voters will use utensils with cotton swabs to check in. Residents must bring a valid picture and signature identification, such as a driver’s license or U.S. passport.
The cumulative voter turnout in the county, including early voting, was at 73 percent. This includes more than 91,000 ballots cast out of 124,598 eligible voters.
Indian River County had just under 77 percent voter turnout total in the 2016 Presidential Election, Swan said.
“We’re hoping we surpass 77 percent,” Swan said.
The election results will come in at various times after polls close. Check back for updates.
