Typically, this is the time of year when children and parents gather at Saint Edward’s School for a roundup of the Aerial Antics Circus summer program. However, as you have probably guessed by now, that program will be considerably different. Fortunately, the program was able to have a scaled-down activity program for young gymnasts and performers. Wanting their students to display their talents and what they have learned in camp, organizers have created the “Virtual Aerial Antics Youth Circus” video. On that, you will see dance, circus aerial and gymnastic skills of young Vero participants. You can see that video by going to COVB.org. It will also be available for viewing through the Aerial Antics Circus Facebook page and on its YouTube channel. The video is expected to be available for viewing by this Saturday, Aug. 8.
The Vero Beach Art Club is offering online classes from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays. The class is for everyone – beginners to advanced. However, you do need a device that will get you onto the Internet so you can access them on the Zoom website. Don’t let the Zoom element inhibit you. It’s very easy to get to the right spot. The cost is $20 members and $25 non-members. You must sign up by 4 p.m. the Wednesday before, at which time you will receive a special code to get you to the correct Zoom room, the password and, of course, a list of materials needed. The Vero Beach Theatre Guild has a series of offerings on YouTube. You can hear actors perform audition pieces on the theater’s Monologue Mondays. And, there are a number of goodies on its Digital Theatre Group series. The short plays, no more than 10 minutes, are original plays and performed by well-known actors from the Theatre Guild. They are all done via video, including the performances. This is a sweet, fun way for the Theatre Guild to continue to serve both its volunteer talent and a community thirsting for the theater. The videos are offered both on YouTube and on the Vero Beach Theatre Guild Facebook page.
Here’s something you can actually attend, enjoy and applaud … in person, no less. It is the First Presbyterian Church’s youth orchestra performing its Summer Series Strings Concert Sunday afternoon. The concert is a fundraiser for the orchestra’s trip to Colorado’s celebrated and most excellent Aspen Music Festival in the summer of 2021. To keep adults and children healthy and safe, only 100 people will be allowed into the sanctuary. And, each person needs to wear a mask. After the concert, there will be an opening reception for the reopening of The Galleries at First Presbyterian. The artists are Keith Mills, Suzan Phillips and Donna Ware, who have been eagerly waiting since April to display their work. The concert begins 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9. Tickets are $10. The art reception runs immediately after, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Bottled water will be provided at the reception, but guests are required to wear masks while not quenching their thirst and also required to remain 6 feet apart. Because of Hurricane Isaias, Riverside Theatre had to move one of its Comedy Zone shows last weekend. So, Tim “The Dairy Farmer” and BC Murphy will perform 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. this Friday, Aug. 7. There’s indoor dining and free music before the show in the theater’s Live in the Loop spot just past the box office. Tickets to the comedy shows are $14 and $16.
