INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County School Board voted unanimously to hire David Moore as the district’s new superintendent.
“I’m humbled and honored by the vote the Indian River County School Board took today,” Moore said. ” I’m looking forward to working quickly through the negotiation phase so that we can get to work and ensure all students are provided transformational impact.”
The Board made its decision after interviewing the three finalists during a special Saturday meeting. The other finalists included Margaret “Peggy” Aune and Peter Licata.
“I’m very happy we had a consensus,” Board member Jacqueline Rosario said. “I’m glad we were all on the same page.”
The board said they liked Moore’s intensity, passion and experience. The next step for the board is to conduct a background check and negotiate the contract.
The new superintendent will receive an annual salary of $178,000, school officials said.
Moore has been an educator for 24 years, including the past six as Assistant Superintendent at Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the fourth-largest district in the nation – and one of the nation’s highest performing urban school districts.
During his tenure with the district he has served as a teacher, counselor, assistant principal, principal and administrative director. As assistant superintendent, he oversees the district’s Division of Academic Support.
