SEBASTIAN — A man was flown to a trauma center after a train struck his truck Friday evening, police and fire rescue crews said.
The collision involving a Ford F-150 pickup happened about 10 p.m. Friday at Main Street and U.S. 1, Sebastian police Lieutenant Timothy Wood said. The unidentified man, who was the only person in the truck, was flown to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne with traumatic injuries, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke said.

The crash closed Main Street from Louisiana Avenue to the railroad tracks, Wood said. East and westbound County Road 512 was also closed at the railroad tracks.
It was unknown when the roadways would reopen. Most of the truck was crushed from the wreck.
Police and fire rescue crews were still at the crash roping off the scene shortly before 10:30 p.m. Police are investigating the cause of the incident, while the Florida East Coast Railway will conduct its own independent investigation, Wood said.
The FEC will remove the train from the area, according to Wood. Further details on the wreck were not immediately available.
Witness Reaction
Witness Mo Shea said she was sitting on the back porch about 10 p.m. Friday at her mother’s home just a few houses away when she heard the horn from the train. Moments later, she heard a loud bang.
Her neighbors heard it too, she said.
“I saw his silhouette in the truck,” said Mo Shea, 56. “Say a prayer for him.”
