The Vero Beach Theatre Guild will hold auditions for its holiday production of “A Christmas Carol” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, and 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15. Callbacks are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15. Roles are open to performers ages 8 and older. Those auditioning should prepare a song from the show or a similar musical, no longer than 90 seconds, and be prepared for a dance call. Featuring music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, the musical retells Charles Dickens’ classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his journey toward redemption. Riverside Theatre’s Comedy Zone will feature headliner Patrick Garrity and feature act Shannon Hall with performances at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, and 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15. Doors open one hour before each show for dining. Garrity’s stand-up combines original storytelling, impressions and observations drawn from military service and family life, while Hall brings decades of comedy experience with routines about relationships, everyday life and human nature. Riverside Theatre’s Live in the Loop concert series will present free outdoor performances from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, through Saturday, Aug. 15. The Vince Love Duo will perform blues, jazz, rock and Motown on Thursday, the Whipper Snappers Mountain Boys will play bluegrass and country on Friday, and String Daddy will close the series Saturday with rock favorites performed on string instruments. The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will present “Landscapes & Legends” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at the Community Church of Vero Beach. Guest conductor Patrick Phillips will lead Paul Dukas’ “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” followed by the world premiere of Kenneth Fuchs’ “Cloud Slant.” Pianist Jacob Craig will perform Edward MacDowell’s Piano Concerto No. 2 before the concert concludes with Ottorino Respighi’s “Pines of Rome.” Phillips led the instrumental music program at Satellite High School for 10 years; Fuchs is a Grammy winner whose music has been recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra; and Craig is director of music and arts at First Presbyterian in Vero Beach. We Care Foundation’s Empower and Educate Series will present dermatologist Dr. Patrick Ottuso discussing Skin Cancer Awareness and Prevention at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Heritage Center. Lunch will be served before the presentation begins at noon. Dr. Ottuso will discuss risk factors, prevention strategies, early detection and treatment options for skin cancer. Admission is $10. The Vero Beach Museum of Art will present Art Talk, “Chromatic Conversations,” beginning at noon, Wednesday, Aug. 19.
