Homestead man charged after traveling to meet minor for sex in IRC

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 27-year-old Homestead man was arrested after deputies said he traveled to Indian River County to engage in sexual activity with an underage girl at a park last month.

Edgar Esteban Camargo Pedraza was charged with lewd or lascivious battery and traveling to meet a minor for unlawful sexual activity. Camargo Pedraza was held Friday at the Indian River County Jail on a $200,000 bond.

The incident began overnight Friday June 12. Camargo Pedraza drove three hours north in a 2013 dark blue Acura from Homestead to Indian River County to meet the girl, reports show.

Camargo Pedraza arrived at the front of the community where the girl had been staying shortly before 3:30 a.m. Deputies said Camargo Pedraza picked up the minor and drove her to Toni Robinson Waterfront Trail, located off 79th Street in Wabasso, where the two engaged in sexual activity.

Deputies said the girl and Camargo Pedraza spoke through messages and a phone call via Snapchat about sex prior to meeting in person, reports show.

The girl said she and Camargo Pedraza had been messaging each other on Snapchat since October 2025. The minor said she knew Camargo Pedraza was 27 years old, according to reports.

Deputies spoke with Camargo Pedraza on Thursday, July 16. Camargo Pedraza said he thought the girl was at least 18 years old, deputies said.

Deputies arrested Camargo Pedraza and booked him into the county jail. Camargo Pedraza has an arraignment at 9 a.m. Aug. 26, court records show.
