INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An 82-year-old woman was pulled from a vehicle Friday after being trapped for nearly 24 hours in an automobile that veered into a water-filled ditch the day before. The woman, whose identity was not released, had non-life threatening injuries, said sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson for the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
“She was likely in the ditch since yesterday,” Jaworski said. “(The woman) stated she crashed yesterday. Her last hit on our license plate readers was (Thursday) about 2 p.m.”
The wreck happened Thursday afternoon at the west dead end of 53rd Street near 74th Avenue. The canal runs north and south at 74th Avenue.
A work crew in the area discovered the white 2026 Cadillac XT5 sport utility vehicle in the ditch about 12:36 p.m. Friday and dialed 911, Jaworski said. The woman was pulled from the vehicle.
Jaworski said the woman was taken by ambulance to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce. A rotation tow was called to remove the Cadillac.
Further details on the wreck were not immediately available.
