Woof, did I ever have a fun time this week. It was SO fun, in fact, that I hadda take a nap when I got back to the office, mostly cuz it took place at that pawsome dog park by the River, you probly know it, the one with a Big Dog Side, anna Liddle Dog Side.
When me an my assistant arrived, there were poochos of all sizes an pursuasions chasin’ each other all over the place, play-play-playin’.
We right away spotted three pooches hangin’ out together under a shade thingy with their humans. As we approached, one of ’em, who I thought at first was a Black Lab, trotted right over inna frenly way. I figured he was my initial innerview-ee, Cash Putzke, an he WAS!
“Hey, there, Bonzo! I recognized you right away from your phodo in the PAYper! (An cuzza ‘cthat notebook.) I’m Cash Putzke, an THIS is my Dad Brandon, an my brother Remmy Laibe, and his Mommy Michele, an my sister, Miss Olive Keyserling, an her Mommy Caroline. We get together every week, right here!”
“I’m TRAY excited to meet you all,” I said. Wag-an-Sniffs ensued.
Even tho Cash, Remmy an Miss Olive have their own looks an doganalities, I could totally tell they were siblings: same happy faces an long, slender legs an they tumbled around with each other like puppies, which they kinda still are. They’ll be 2 Aug. 1. Cash is biggest, 62 powns. Miss Olive’s 55, Remmy’s jus 44.
Cash looked mostly like a Black Lab, I thought. Remmy, the smallest, has a warm brown coat an is more slender. Miss Olive’s coat is pretty much like Cash’s ’cept she has a wiggly white stripe from neck to tummy, white sox, anna white spot on her chest that looks like a flyin’ bird.
“I know we don’t look exactly like each other,” said Cash. “But we MOST-ly DO. Mom an Dad got me this speshull test to find out all our ingredients, D-an-A or something. It says we’re mostly Boykin Spaniel (which BTW is South Carolina’s State Dog); we’re also 36 percent Pit Terrier; 7 percent Boxer; an 5 percent German Shepherd. I have the long, fluffy ears like the Boykin. They made me a liddle top heavy when I was a tiny pupper, but I grew into ’em finally.”
“Hey, Cash,” said Remmy. “Let’s tell Mr. Bonzo our HURRY-cane adven-chur!” He turned to me.
“See, Mr. Bonzo, it all started cuzza that big, girl storm called, ummm, heh-LEEN. We were just 10-weeks-old puppies dropped off atta shelter in North Caro-LINE-uh. But when heh-LEEN was gettin’ ready to pounce, all us shelter residents got transferred to a shelter in TAM-puh.”
“But THEN,” Miss Olive innerjected, “uh-NOTHER storm, a BIGGER, SCARIER one, called Hurry-Cane MILL-ton, was ALSO gonna pounce, so we hadda get transferred AGAIN, to HERE!
Well, ackshully, to Sebastian, in that nice shelter, H.A.L.O., Thank Lassie.”
“Hey, Olive,” said Remmy, “tell Bonzo about our funny names.”
“Oh, right!” Miss Olive said. “See, H.A.L.O. does this Cool Kibbles thing: They name the shelter dog an cat litters with a THEEM, like Veg-tubbles, or Colors, stuff like that. So WE were named after Cool Stuff in Space: I got Pandora, Remmy was Galileo, Cash was Hubble. I mean, they were cool names for sure, but I think we’re all Very Glad we got new names from our Furever families.
Am I right?” She turned to her sibs.
“Fur sure, sis!” Remmy agreed.
“Troo Dat!” said Cash.
“Woof! Whatta Tail!” I exclaimed, writing as fast as I could. “You’ve sure been through a LOT, speshully for bein’ so young! So, how did you find your Furever Homes?”
“Well, we all got ’dopted from H.A.L.O., an we all went in different directions an kinda lost touch with each other. We all got the Best Furever Famlies EVER an, didn’t zactly forgGET each other, but there were so many different excitin’, important things to get used to, an learn, so our puppy mem-rees got kinda fuzzy,” Cash said.
“Woof! I totally understand,” I told them. “That’s a LOT for liddle puppers.”
So,” said Cash, “I’ll start, OK?”Miss Olive an Remmy nodded and Cash began.
“Well, right after that hurrycane, when all the humans were cleanin’ up stuff, one of Dad’s frens needed some help so Dad went over. His fren was walkin’ a H.A.L.O. rescue dog he was fosterin’ – ME. WELL, the minute me an (future) Dad looked at each other we KNEW! So Dad took me home that Very Day to meet my Furever Mom, Mary. I also have a human brother Tyler anna sister Grace. I am one Lucky Poocheroo.”
Cash nuzzled his Dad an received a coupla of head friffles.
“I don’t chew bones all that much. Perhaps the occasional shoe. One time I swallowed a dryer sheet an hadda go to the vet. That was Not Fun AT ALL,” Cash mused.
“No Woof!” I exclaimed. “Thanks for sharin,’ Cash. So, how about you, Miss Olive?”
“I’m a lucky pupper, too! Mr. Bonzo. I was also onna leash walk, with my bran-new furever Mom (this is her, Caroline) when I first met Cash, atta place outside where people sit an EAT.
Chelsea’s. Cash’s Dad thought I looked jus like Cash and asked my Forever Mom if I came from North Carolina, which I did. My Dada is Ethan. I havva new pooch big brother, Sammy! He’s my BFF! We play TUG-O-WAR with our octopus toys. I also have pooch cuzzins, Toula an Kaia. We can play for a Really Long Time! When I’m playin’ with Mama an Dada, I like to hide my ball toys under, ummm, what’s that stuff you sit on called, um …”
“FURN-iture,” Cash prompted.
“Oh, right, FURN-iture. Anyway, I roll ’em under the FURN-iture an Mama an Dad hafta get ’em for me, while I wait puh-lightly. WAY fun.”
“So, Remmy, what’s your tail,” I inquired.
“Umm, well, lemme see, my Furever Mommy, Michele, this is her” (Remmy gave her a liddle nose bump) “an Poppy, Mark, had been feelin’ sad because their pree-vious dog, a Shih-Tzu, hadda go to Dog Heaven. So even though I’m the RUNT of the lidder, an also crippled, they ’dopted me from H.A.L.O. Thank Lassie.
“I got re-united with my sibs when me an Mommy were walking along CAR-dinal Drive an Cash an his Dad were also out walkin’ and we spotted each other and we both thought, ‘He looks a LOT like me!’”
I wish I’d had, like, another hour to spend with Cash, Remmy an Miss Olive. An how Pawsome it is that they got back together again!
