INDIAN RIVER SHORES — Residents can learn about changes to Indian River County’s coastline, rising sea levels, coastal risk analyses and more at a beach preservation public workshop Tuesday. Attendees can ask questions and provide feedback to county staff and technical experts.

“Public input is a vital part of the planning process,” Indian River County officials said in a statement. “Attendees will have multiple opportunities to share comments during and after the workshop, including an online comment form and other submission options.”

The workshop will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 14 at the Indian River Shores Community Center, 6001 Highway A1A. The event will focus on an update to the county’s Beach Preservation Plan – a long-term strategy guiding the monitoring, restoration and management of the county’s 22.4 miles of Atlantic coastline.

A brief Beach and Shores Advisory Committee meeting will be held at the beginning of the event. Guests will see a presentation and learn about the county’s beach preservation efforts.

After the presentation, attendees can participate in the open house-style workshop that will have informational exhibits and posters. Officials will be available to answer questions about shoreline changes, storm resilience, environmental protection and future management strategies.

The Beach Preservation Plan – created in 1988 – is updated periodically to show the evolving environmental conditions, storm impacts and advancements in coastal science.

“Community participation ensures the plan continues to reflect local priorities while balancing coastal protection, environmental stewardship, and public access,” county officials said.

For more information on the workshop or the Beach Preservation Plan, visit the Indian River County website or contact Coastal Division at [email protected]. ADA accommodation requests can also be submitted through this contact, officials say.
