In her welcome to visitors at the Vero Beach Art Club’s 37th annual Art by the Sea exhibition at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, Michelle Nevaeh, VBAC board president, thanked the event co-chairs, Judy Rixom, Sherry Haaland and Paulette Visceglia, who had coordinated the presentation of more than 200 works of art by members of the VBAC, VBMA or both.

“I’d also like to thank our judge, Joe Johnson, who did a wonderful job of judging this. It’s not easy to do with so many great pieces of art here today. And of course, I’d like to thank our sponsors that help make this all happen for us and the Vero Beach Museum of Art for housing the show,” said Nevaeh.

“Not only is this the 37th year for Art by the Sea, but we’re also coming up to the 75th anniversary of Under the Oaks as well as the 90th birthday of the Vero Beach Art Club. We’re super excited about all these milestones and we’re celebrating with different events, so tap into our website and on our social media to find out what’s going on.”

She noted that the shows are just a small part of what they do, all of which is managed by just two employees.

“Everything else is done by volunteers and committees and your donations, so we appreciate how you help us out. As you can imagine, having so many balls in the air, we have a board of directors that oversee everything and each function has its own chairpeople and committees to pull off these shows and they’ve been doing it so long they’re well-oiled machines,” said Nevaeh.

She noted that as it was a momentous year for them, she wanted to thank some of the people who have “driven the ship for the last 90 years,” including club presidents, who take on a lot of the responsibilities.

Among those who came to the podium to speak were Paulette Visceglia, Camy De Mario, Rosemary Polsky-Newman, Rita Ziegler and Mary Ellen Koser, whose comments included remarks on the quality of the show, how honored they were to have served the art club, and how lucky we are to live in an area with such gifted artists.

Upcoming VBAC events include the New Dimensions 3-D Exhibit, Feb. 6-19 at the Vero Beach Art Club Gallery; the 75th annual Under the Oaks Fine Arts and Crafts Festival, March 13-15 at Riverside Park; and Art in the Park, Feb. 15, March 1 and March 29 at Humiston Park on Ocean Drive.
