The Atlantic Classical Orchestra opens its 36th season and Masterworks Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, with a program titled “Borrowed & Blue.” The concert will be held at the Community Church of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd St. It features pianist Tao Lin performing Saint-Saëns’ vibrant Piano Concerto No. 5 (“Egyptian”). Also on the program will be Kurt Weill’s “Little Threepenny Music” and selections from George Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess.” The concert explores how African and African-American music influenced classical and popular traditions and invites listeners to consider how composers “borrow” styles to create something new. The Neil Diamond Legacy Concert starring Jay White will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at the Emerson Center. Tickets range from $50 to $115. The Sugar Bloom Ball brings formal flair back to life on Friday, Jan. 23, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Lake House, 321 Lamon Road, Fort Pierce. This black-tie gala will feature dinner, live music and a silent auction to benefit the Sugar Bloom Foundation, which supports healing and hope for cancer patients through orchids, restorative classes and community-based programs. The Vero Beach Theatre Guild presents Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” this weekend. The Environmental Learning Center invites families to celebrate nature with Lagoonapalooza, a free all-day festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24. Festivalgoers can enjoy live music from Chris Kahl, Murphy Dogs, Gary Roland & the Landsharks Band, and Hot Pink, as well as eco-activities, canoe rides, kids’ exhibits, and local food vendors. The event is designed as both a celebration of the Indian River Lagoon and an opportunity to learn about conservation in a hands-on way.
