VERO BEACH — Fighting Indians fans are encouraged to make signs, grab their friends and bring their ‘Vero spirit’ Saturday to cheer on the football team as they head to Miami to compete in the 7A state championship game. Residents can gather at eight different intersections along State Road 60 to see a caravan of buses that will transport the football players, along with the marching band and cheerleaders.
The caravan will consist of four buses, escorted by two Indian River County Fire Rescue trucks and three sheriff’s patrol vehicles, said Kyra Schafte, director of strategic communications and marketing for the School District of Indian River County. The caravan will leave about noon on Saturday from Vero Beach High School, located at 1707 16th Street, south of S.R. 60.
The “tribe to 305” will head west on 16th Street, north on 20th Avenue and then west on S.R. 60 to Interstate 95. The intersections where residents can cheer on the Fighting Indians are below:

- 27th Avenue and State Road 60
- 43rd Avenue and State Road 60
- 58th Avenue and State Road 60
- 66th Avenue and State Road 60
- 74th Avenue and State Road 60
- 82nd Avenue and State Road 60
- 90th Avenue and State Road 60
The Vero Beach Fighting Indians will face-off against the Lake Mary Rams at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Pitbull Stadium on the campus of Florida International University in Miami. The highly-anticipated game was expected to draw thousands of fans to the stadium.
The historic game marks the second time the Vero high football team will compete in a state championship in 44 years. The footballers last won their only state title in 1981 under Coach Billy Livings.
