INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Sheriff’s officials released a surveillance video capturing Donald Keaton walking in a residential neighborhood before crossing County Road 512 and walking the trail leading to the bridge over Interstate 95. A neighbor was riding an electric bike when he saw Keaton walking eastbound from the bridge Sunday afternoon.
“It was common for (Keaton) to walk the bridge and sight see,” Indian River County sheriff’s Sgt. Greg Farless said. “The neighbor described Keaton’s clothing including his U.S. Army hat.”
Keaton, who has dementia and Parkinson’s disease, hasn’t been seen since 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Keaton was last seen wearing long dark pants, a long-sleeve shirt, dress shoes, a retired military ball cap and possibly layered clothing including a patterned polo and dress shorts, sheriff’s officials said.
The surveillance video showing the moments before Keaton walked the trail was publicly released on Wednesday. The video has a timestamp of 1:48 p.m. Sunday, nearly 30 minutes before the neighbor last saw Keaton on the walking trail.
The 29-second footage shows Keaton walking eastbound along 94th Street in a residential area located directly behind the RaceTrac gas station.

Keaton, 86, of Vero Lake Estates, told his wife he planned to walk the trail along the bridge. Keaton walked from Encore Sunshine Travel campground, where he was staying with his wife, and traveled northeast along 94th Street and across County Road 512.
Deputies have been searching for Keaton since Sunday afternoon. Sheriff’s officials posted a social media alert on Monday notifying the public of Keaton’s disappearance.

The deputies used helicopters, all-terrain vehicles and ground units to search the bridge and trail for any sign of Keaton.
The neighbor spotted Keaton walking eastbound from the bridge at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
“The neighbor asked him ‘how are you doing?'” Farless said. “(Keaton) replied, ‘Good morning.’ He has dementia so he got the time mixed up.”
Deputies also reviewed surveillance footage from RaceTrac that showed Keaton walking in the neighborhood before crossing County Road 512 to get to the trail.
Farless said deputies will continue to search the area near the bridge and trail on Thursday.
Keaton was described as a white man with glasses, bald head and blue eyes. Keaton is 5-feet 9-inches tall and weighs 150 pounds, sheriff’s officials said.
Anyone who knows information about Keaton’s whereabouts should call 911.
