INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Family members moved quickly to put out a small kitchen fire Monday, but smoke spread throughout the home, leaving it uninhabitable, officials said. The house fire left the seven residents – including three children – displaced.
There were no serious injuries reported from the flames, Indian River County Fire Chief David Rattray said.
Indian River County Fire Rescue crews responded about 11:59 a.m. to the blaze at the single-family home on 3rd Street Southwest. The residents extinguished the fire before crews arrived, Rattray said.
Rattray said three people were taken to HCA Florida Vero Beach Emergency as a precaution. American Red Cross officials were providing financial assistance to the family, said Eric Roby, executive director for the Palm Beach – Treasure Coast Chapter.
