INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 26-year-old woman who deputies said swerved along the road before officers found heroin in her car, was jailed last week.

April Mae Corso, of the 1900 block of 16th Avenue, Vero Beach, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving while license suspended or revoked and fleeing and eluding. Corso was released March 8 from the Indian River County Jail on $9,000 bond.
Indian River County sheriff’s patrol deputies were conducting a traffic stop about 9 p.m. March 7 at the 50th Avenue and 26th Street intersection, north of State Road 60. Sheriff’s dispatchers informed deputies about another vehicle – a Honda CR-V – that was swerving between lanes on northbound 58th Avenue, reports show.
A patrol deputy began following the Honda as it turned onto eastbound 26th Street. The Honda crossed over the double yellow line and traveled about 25 yards before the driver swerved the vehicle back into the correct traffic lane, reports show.
The patrol deputy activated her emergency lights and siren. The Honda – driven by Corso – continued traveling and made a right turn onto southbound 50th Avenue, reports show.
Another patrol deputy activated his emergency lights and sirens before he pulled in front of the Honda. Deputies said Corso tried to drive around the patrol car twice before she stopped her vehicle.
Deputies said they saw Corso empty a plastic bag containing a grayish powder onto the driver’s seat and floorboard. The substance tested positive for heroin, reports show.
Deputies also found a cut straw containing heroin residue in the vehicle. Deputies found a small plastic bag with heroin residue in Corso’s front pants, reports show.
Officers also learned Corso’s license was suspended since May 29, 2018.
Deputies arrested Corso and booked her into the county jail. Corso has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. April 22, court records show.
