INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 21-year-old Fort Pierce man was jailed after deputies said he exceeded more than 100 mph while fleeing from officers Sunday. The man followed his ex-girlfriend to a hotel, punched her car and followed her vehicle again before deputies tracked him.

Marquarius Ja’Qual Wright was charged with reckless driving, aggravated fleeing and eluding, knowingly driving while license suspended, resisting officer without violence, aggravated stalking and assault. Wright was held Wednesday at the Indian River County Jail on $43,500 bond.
Indian River County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of possible shots fired about 4 a.m. at Country Inn & Suites in the 9300 block of 19th Lane. A woman told deputies she and her friend, another woman, went to check in at the hotel, but there were no vacancies.
When the two returned to the car, they saw a black Chevy Malibu – driven by Wright – pull into the parking lot. Wright parked next to the woman’s car, got out and punched her vehicle, reports show.
The woman thought Wright had fired a gunshot at her, so she drove off at a high rate of speed, deputies said. Wright followed the woman’s vehicle until he reached the Indian River Mall.
Sheriff’s patrol deputies tracked Wright’s Chevy on State Road 60 and then 58th Avenue. Deputies activated their emergency lights and sirens, but Wright continued driving and reached 103 mph, reports show.
One report states Wright stopped the Chevy near 58th Avenue, while another report shows Wright drove back to the Country Inn & Suites to confront the woman again.
Deputies arrested Wright and booked him into the county jail. Wright has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. April 22, court records show.
