SEBASTIAN — A man was jailed after deputies said he struck a person – older than 65 years old – several times on both arms during an altercation at the individual’s residence. Deputies shocked the man with a Taser after he pushed and kicked officers while being arrested.

Shawn Lewis Eaton, 35, of 134th Street, Sebastian, was charged with battery on person over 65, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams and resisting officer without violence. Eaton was held Thursday at the Indian River County Jail without bond.

The relationship between Eaton and the other person was redacted from Eaton’s arrest report.

Indian River County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a disturbance about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at a county residence. The person had gone to the garage earlier to tell Eaton something.

Then, Eaton became violent and struck the individual repeatedly on both arms, leaving bruises, reports show. Deputies found Eaton still in the garage and tried to detain him.

Deputies said Eaton pulled away from officers while pushing and kicking them. Deputies had to use a Taser on Eaton in order to handcuff him, reports show.

Officers searched the garage and found several pieces of drug paraphernalia for smoking and grinding marijuana. Deputies also discovered a clear bag containing 10 grams of marijuana, reports show.

Eaton told deputies he did not have a medical marijuana license.

Deputies arrested Eaton and booked him into the county jail. Eaton has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. April 22, court records show.
