FELLSMERE — Police reopened Babcock Street after closing down the roadway to contain a truck fire Tuesday, causing traffic delays.

No injuries were reported from the fire, Fellsmere Police Chief Keith Touchberry said. The cause of the blaze was unknown.

The flames were reported about 11:30 a.m. at 11900 Babcock Street Southeast, northwest of St. Sebastian River State Park, Fellsmere police said. The agency put a video on its Facebook page showing the vehicle fully engulfed in flames along the right grass shoulder.

Billows of smoke could be seen coming from the truck.

“The vehicle is owned by MasTec,” Touchberry said. “The smoke started from the back left tire. When we got there, the whole back end was fully engulfed.”

Police closed Babcock Street in the immediate area.

Indian River County Fire Rescue crews extinguished the flames about 12:45 p.m., and police reopened the road shortly after, Touchberry said. Touchberry said the truck will be towed from the scene.
