INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — One person was killed after their vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a tree and burst into flames Thursday, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
FHP investigators were working to identify the driver and the vehicle following the fiery crash. A traffic crash report listed the vehicle type as a sedan.
Troopers said the single-vehicle crash happened about noon Thursday on State Road 60, five miles west of County Road 512. The unidentified person was traveling in the sedan in the outside lane on westbound S.R. 60.
For an unknown reason, the driver traveled off the roadway toward the grass shoulder and struck a tree, troopers said. The driver – the only person in the vehicle – was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Troopers continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
