INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 78-year-old Vero Beach motorcyclist was killed after he ran a stop sign and crashed into a trailer pulled by a pickup, highway troopers said.

The Florida Highway Patrol is no longer releasing the names of those involved in crashes because of privacy reasons. The driver of the pickup truck, a 56-year-old Fellsmere man, was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt, troopers said.

Troopers said the motorcyclist, who wore a helmet, was traveling about 8 a.m. Thursday in the westbound lane of 69th Street. The pickup was traveling in the northbound lane of 66th Avenue, troopers said.

Troopers said the motorcyclist failed to make a complete stop at a stop sign. The motorcyclist then crashed into the trailer being hauled by the pickup.

The man was taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, where he died from his injuries, troopers said. The fatal wreck remains under investigation.
