INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Motorists on Interstate 95 and County Road 512 might see smoke from a 530-acre prescribed burn Tuesday, officials said.

The burn, authorized by Florida Forest Service, is being conducted at St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park, according to Fellsmere police. Park officials are scorching shrubs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the southeast part of the park.

The burn is being held north of C.R. 512 and east of I-95, police said. The park stretches from southern Brevard County to northern Indian River County.

The prescribed burns help prevent uncontrollable wildfires by destroying fire fuels, including undergrowth. The burns also lead to ecological restoration.
