To ring in the new year, Gallery 14 presents: “People and Places: Oils by Paul Davis and Sculpture by George Paxton.” The show will run from Dec. 31 through Jan. 27. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, Jan. 2 from 5 – 8 p.m. and the Gallery will also be open for the First Friday Gallery Stroll on Jan. 3 from 5 – 8 p.m.
This special holiday show featuring two beloved local artists, will focus on Paul Davis’ marine art, consisting of boats and seascapes and George Paxton’s varying array of bronze and terra cotta figurative sculptures. Paul, born and educated in Boston, has pursued painting marine subjects on and off for the past 55 years.
He and his wife, Cynthia, moved from Kennibunkport, Maine, to Vero Beach where he maintains a studio in Indian River Shores. His award winning paintings have been shown in many galleries and are in private collections.
George Paxton’s classical style, representational sculpture is created in terra cotta, resin and bronze. Born and raised in the New York City area, and having worked in the Washington, D.C., area, he received his artistic training at the Art Student’s League, Vanderbilt University, Corcoran School of Art, and Florence Academy of Art, among other places. He presently teaches at the Vero Beach Museum of Art and the Southern Vermont Arts Center and maintains a studio in Vero Beach.
Featured, as well, will be watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel, mixed media, assemblage, collage, sculpture, art glass, ceramic, and jewelry by Gallery 14 owners-artists: Lila Blakeslee, Barbara du Pont, Beth-Anne Fairchild, Mary Ann Hall, Barbara Landry, George Pillorgé, Deborah Morrell Polackwich, and Dorothy Napp Schindel, as well as Walford Campbell, Joan Earnhart, Terry Green, Mia Lindberg, Viola Pace Knudsen, Francis Mesaros, Michael Robinson, and Carol Staub, and sales associate-artist Jo Zaza.
