Float Hope’s invitational swim meet this Friday

The Float Hope Invitational 3rd Fall Invitational Swim Meet is this Friday at 5 p.m. at the North County Aquatic Center and sanction by Florida Swimming of USA Swimming # 4922. It is hosted by Treasure Coast Swimming.

Come watch and cheer 120 children from Indian River County who are sponsored into USA swimming by Float Hope of IRC. All swimmers are also sponsored to swim on IRC’s only USA swim team the

Treasure Coast Conquistadors with Coach Scott Barlow & Holly Mc Clain.

The meet is at the center of teaching children a “life sport” which includes discipline, friendships and ultimately confidence. The Float Hope team is a sponsored group of children mostly 6 to 11 years old who otherwise would not swim but are sponsored to be part of Treasure Coast Swimming (TCSC).

The kids swim 3-5 days per week and two Invitational meets with children from three Boys and Girls

Clubs as well as the Gifford Youth Achievement Center.

“Our goal is to start kids at the earliest age and give them a gift so that when they enter high school they have a sport, a wide group of friends and are disciplined to go on to the next level of their lives with optimism,” said Jeff Powers, director of Float Hope. “Friendships are key to life as well as confidence and we are willing to fund outcomes through our program as it is rigorous with mandatory participation as there remains a long waiting list to swim with all costs absorbed by the charity by like-minded people who have a vested interest in helping those who are in need succeed.”

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in Florida for young children. Float Hope is a 501c3 charity where all contributions go to funding swimming for the kids.

Most children plan to eventually swim in high school on the varsity swim team and go to a four-year college.

There is no admission fee to and everyone in Indian River County is encouraged to come and cheer these newly minted swimmers.

Free food and beverage are provided to all swimmers and attendees.
