Teller foils bank-rob bid

A Port St. Lucie man left empty-handed from an attempted bank robbery last week, police said.

The man attempted to hold up the Bank of America branch at 9110 S U.S. 1, but a teller foiled his plans.

Instead of complying with the would-be robber’s demands of handing over the cash and not hitting the alarm, she pulled the alarm, according to the Port St. Lucie Police Department.

The accused attempted bank robber was later identified as Calvin Don Jackson, 63, of the 1500 block of SE Royal Green Circle, Port St. Lucie.

According to police, Jackson entered the bank around 3:15 p.m. Friday afternoon and approached the 54-year-old bank teller.

He placed his hand near his waist, over his clothing, in what police said was an implication that he had a gun.

The teller triggered the alarm and called out for the supervisor, which caused Jackson to flee on foot. Police responded quickly and set up a perimeter. Authorities observed a man fitting Jackson’s description walking along SE Walton Road. The man was detained and positively identified as the accused bank robber.

Jackson has since been charged with attempted robbery and is in the county jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
