Fire displaces family of five in Palm Trails neighborhood

Five people have been displaced following a car fire that engulfed their home in the Palm Trails neighborhood last week.

The American Red Cross responded to the family, providing temporary housing and other necessities.

The St. Lucie Fire District was called to the home, located in the 1900 block of SW Flower Lane, shortly before 3 a.m. March 1. Fire District spokeswoman Brenda Stokes said the car was so badly damaged in the blaze that the cause of the fire might not be determined.

Investigators are continuing their efforts. Two adults and three children were displaced due to the fire. No injuries were reported.

Those seeking to help the affected family are encouraged to donate to the American Red Cross, which helps all families who have suffered a fire or other natural disaster. According to the Red Cross, 36 people are injured or killed daily as a result of home fires.

Along with making a donation, people are urged to educate themselves on house fires and fire safety. They can go to www.RedCross.org/homefires to learn more.
