INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Part of the intersection at 41st Street remains closed from a water main break that formed a large hole in the roadway, officials said.
The water main break happened late Dec. 23 at the intersection at 41st Street and 58th Avenue. The break lifted up the asphalt and created a 20-foot diameter hole in the road, said Indian River County Utilities Operations Manager Terry Southard.
Officials closed the road at the intersection, located just west of Gifford.
Motorists west of 58th Court are being detoured west to 66th Avenue. Motorists east of the intersection should take 45th Street to get to 66th Avenue, Southard said.
The motorists can travel southbound on 66th Avenue to get back to 41st Street.
The intersection, however, is not closed to north and southbound motorists on 58th Avenue.
Southard said utilities crews are working to repair the main break and hope to have it fixed sometime Wednesday. After it’s repaired, public works crews will come and fix the road.
The cause of the main break was not available.
