Downtown Christmas Market Friday evening

VERO BEACH — Live music, vendors, arts, food and shopping are just a few things residents can enjoy from attending the Downtown Christmas Market.

The market event starts at 6 p.m. Friday in the alley between the Kilted Mermaid beer and wine bar and Southern Social restaurant. Kilted Mermaid is located at 1937 Old Dixie Highway and Southern Social is located at 1932 14th Avenue; both are in Vero Beach.

Residents can enjoy hot mulled wine and scratch made eggnog.

Retail shops will be open late so customers can complete their Christmas shopping, officials said. Businesses on the block will be having special discounts.

Vero Beach breaks daily rainfall record from weekend storms

Vero Beach broke the daily rainfall record after drenching showers slammed Florida and other parts of the east coast over the weekend, meteorologists said. Wet weather was not in the forecast this week, but could return with a 40 percent chance of showers next Monday - Christmas Day, meteorologists say. "It will continue to stay dry through much of tomorrow," said Derrick Weitlich, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne. Palm Bay woman charged in fatal Sunday hit-and-run crash

VERO BEACH — A Palm Bay woman who police said fatally struck a man walking along Indian River Boulevard, stopped to switch seats with a passenger in the car and then continued traveling northbound, was jailed Sunday. The driver, Shanice Person, told officers she became aware she struck something large in the middle of the road that was likely alive and could possibly be a person, reports show.
