Henry Clay “Harry” Irons, 89, of Vero Beach, passed away on Sept. 7, 2016.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Doubleday Irons of Vero Beach, his sister Louise Irons Jonas of Naples, Fla.; his children, Henry Clay Irons of Newport Beach, Calif., George Chester Irons and daughter-in-law Barbara Ann Kroeger Irons of Aspen, Colo., Carol Louise Irons Ross and son-in-law Christopher Jonathan Ross of Auckland, N.Z.; and his grandchildren Genevieve A. Irons-Mousavi, Suzette McKenzie Irons, Morgan Greer Irons, Grace Mary Patricia Ross and Miles John Mabyn Ross.
Irons was born on April 16, 1927, in New York City to Henry Clay Irons and Genevieve Schreiter Irons.
While growing up in New York City, Harry attended the Allen-Stevenson School and later graduated from the Hill School in Pottstown, Pa., and from Princeton University, Class of 1951.
Prior to entering Princeton University he served in the US Navy on the USS Taconic during the final months of WWII. He married Mary Patricia Doubleday on July 10, 1954, after which the couple made their home in New York City and later in Oyster Bay, Long Island. He enjoyed a long career in the insurance industry at New England Life.
Irons was a past member of the The Creek Club, Locust Valley, New York and The Riomar Club, Vero Beach. He was also a past Vice President of The Princeton Club of New York. Above all, he cherished his time with his family and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach on Sept. 13th at 11 a.m.
