Vero Beach Rotary Club gives $2,000 to ORCA for Kilroy maintenance

VERO BEACH — The Rotary Club of Vero Beach Charities Foundation presented a $2,000 check to Dr. Edie Widder of ORCA to help maintain the Kilroy unit located in the Indian River Lagoon just off of the Vero Beach Yacht Club.

Kilroy units are water quality measuring systems that measure and track pollution in the Indian River Lagoon. Dr. Widder stressed that the Indian River ecosystem is at risk.

There are more than 47,000 acres of sea grass which provide homes and food to dolphins, manatees, pelicans and other sea creatures. Many of these species are exhibiting signs of disease directly linked to pollution in the lagoon.

The Kilroy units help map the source of the pollution. For more information on Kilroy visit www.teamorca.org.

Founded in 1926, the Rotary Club of Vero Beach meets every Thursday at 12 p.m. at the Vero Beach Yacht Club. For more information, go to www.Verorotary.org or email elthomason5@gmail.com. For more information about Rotaract, go to www.ircRotaract.org or email dsteele@irsc.edu.
