Treasure Coast Community Health emphasizes women’s health

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — One of the goals of Treasure Coast Community Health (TCCH) is to eliminate healthcare disparities for the citizens of Indian River County. As part of its ongoing mission of providing quality, low cost health care, TCCH also focuses on preventive medicine, detecting a problem before it becomes a major problem.

The “Think PINK Women’s Preventative Health Services” program is critical to the health and well-being of the women of Indian River County. The overall goal of the Women’s Preventative Health Services program is to continue to educate women on the importance of screenings and to provide them with the necessary resources and tools for early detection and treatment.

The simple fact is, early detection through screenings saves lives. According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, as mammography screening rates have increased, breast cancer has been found in the early stages when the chances of survival is at its highest. By providing continuity of care to women, especially those who cannot afford it, TCCH can continue to make a positive impact, and meet the goal of providing early detection and care to those who do not have the financial resources. This will also ensure that women in need do not fall through the cracks when it comes to preventative care.

While TCCH provides a sliding fee discount based on income and family size to make primary care more affordable, the cost of a mammogram (provided by a specialist) is beyond many. The Think PINK- Women’s Preventative Health Service program focuses on screening, early detection and provides piece of mind with potentially life-saving tests, through final diagnosis.

The Think PINK- Women’s Preventative Health Service program fits flawlessly into the TCCH long range model and vision of “Your Health. Our Mission for ALL.” In existence for more than 20 years, TCCH is Indian River County’s first and only Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) provides exceptional primary medical, dental and behavioral health services to nearly 16,000 residents a year.

TCCH began in the basement of the old Fellsmere School with the mission of providing needed and affordable medical services to under or non-insured migrant workers with one part-time doctor and a nurse. Today TCCH has grown to encompass four facilities within Indian River County.

TCCH’s staff are highly credentialed community leaders and are supported by a culturally diverse team of qualified professionals. All clinical staff are board-eligible or board-certified. In addition to Medical services, TCCH provides Dental and Behavioral Health Services at two different sites. One of TCCH’s goals is to eliminate healthcare disparities for residents within Indian River County, so translation and sliding fee discounts are available for patients with limited income.

The funding received from the John’s Island Community Services League is essential to providing uninterrupted services to patients in need of healthcare.
