Grand Harbor gives $10,000 grant for Emergency Meals on Wheels

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Senior Resource Association (SRA) received a $10,000 grant for its Emergency Meals on Wheels Program (EMOW) from the Grand Harbor Community Outreach Program.

Emergency Meals on Wheels assists Indian River County seniors who are experiencing a “crisis situation,” and need short-term home delivered meals. The program targets isolated, home bound seniors who have been recently discharged from a health care facility or have a caregiver who is going into a healthcare facility for a brief period of time.

The EMOW program helps to ensure nutritional intake for seniors after being discharged from a healthcare facility within the last 30 days. The Emergency Meals on Wheels Program is proven to prevent hospital re-admissions and defer nursing home placement, thereby enabling recipients to remain living in their homes independently for a longer period of time.

“We are extremely grateful for this grant that will provide over 1,200 meals for seniors experiencing a ‘crisis situation’ over the next year,” said Karen Deigl. “We truly appreciate their continuous support of this vital program for our local recovering seniors in need.”
