Savory Samplings, auction raises funds for Red Cross March 28

VERO BEACH — On Saturday, March 28, the Red Cross will be hosting a fun evening of savory samplings from around the world. Guests will enjoy a mouth-watering selection of international appetizers, entrees and desserts from some of Indian River County’s favorite restaurants and will vote to select the best of the best.

The Polish American Social Club of Vero Beach will be the setting for this year’s event, which will include live music and a spectacular silent auction. The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. and is being chaired by Ali Landsman and Nellie Quiros. Sponsors include Ineos Biofuel, George E. Warren Corporation and New Vision Eye Center.

Restaurants will compete for the following awards: Best Appetizer, Best Entree and Best Dessert and winners will receive the coveted Platinum Spoon Award. The real winners, however, will be those who attend and sample the delicious offerings, while raising funds for the American Red Cross.

Some of the restaurants participating include Pomedoro Grill, The Wave, Mo Bay Grille, and the Taj Mahal, just to name a few.

Silent auction items include a tour of the Save The Chimps rescue preserve, golf outings, facials and glycolic peel treatments, yoga classes, professional photography sessions, an airboat tour, movie tickets and more.

“This year’s inaugural Savory Samplings is an opportunity for the community to come together for a fun evening in support of the American Red Cross,” said Landsman. “Because the Red Cross is a charitable organization, not a government agency, the organization depends on volunteers and the generosity of others to perform their mission. We are honored to lend our support to this event.”

For almost 100 years locally, the American Red Cross South Florida Region has given hope and help to people in their greatest hour of need, meeting the physical and emotional needs of disaster victims, teaching lifesaving skills such as CPR and First Aid, and supporting military members and their families. Whether it is responding to a residential fire in the middle of the night that affects a single family, or opening a shelter after a disaster that displaces an entire community, the Red Cross is prepared 24 hours a day, seven days a week to bring comfort and care. In the South Florida Region, the Red Cross on average responds to a disaster every 20 hours.

Tickets to Savory Samplings from Around the World are $40 per person and they must be purchased in advance at the American Red Cross office located at 2506 17th Ave. in Vero Beach or by telephone. Event attendance is limited. For more information, please contact Tammy Jackson-Moore at (772) 562-2549 or tammy.jackson-moore@redcross.org.
