Fielden Institute for Lifelong Learning offers nature photography course

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Fielden Institute for Lifelong Learning at Indian River State College invites all those ages 50 and better to join them for a special offering, “Nurture Your Nature Photography Skills” at the IRSC Main Campus in Fort Pierce from 1 to 3 p.m. March 24, 31, and April 7, lead by peer leader and wildlife videographer John Nelson.

Nelson has taught a number of courses on wildlife and nature photography through the University of Florida’s “Florida Master Naturalist” program. In this offering, Nelson will help students to better understand how to use digital cameras, the art of composition, exposure control, better focusing methods, lens selection, tripod usage, digital editing and much more.

Nelson is President of Audubon of Martin County and the voice of “The Audubon Moment” which is currently heard on 4 public radio stations in Florida including WQCS-FM 88.9. Additionally, he is a certified Florida Master Naturalist, Toyota Audubon Together Green Fellow, and wildlife videographer.

He has shot wildlife video for Florida Audubon, and in 2013 he contributed video footage to National Geographic’s “World’s Deadliest” television series. His production company (Florida’s Wild Outdoors) has also produced educational videos for environmental nonprofits including the Manatee Education & Observation Center of Fort Pierce.

The cost for the “Nurture Your Nature Photography Skills” offering is $45 with a subscription to the Fielden Institute for Lifelong Learning 2014-2015 session offerings.
