INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River Genealogical Society is pleased to announce that Mr. Clyde P. Stickney will speak at its regular monthly meeting on March 10, 2015. Clyde P. Stickney grew up in Key West, where his family has lived since his great-great-grandfather, a Florida State Pioneer, shipwrecked in the late 1830s. His genealogy roots trace to the Bahamas and Barbados.

Stickney has served on the Florida Pioneer Committee for the last five years. He is the Past President of the Halifax Genealogical Society in Ormond Beach and the Past Vice President of the Florida State Genealogical Society. He has published in the APG Quarterly and the Florida Genealogist.

It can be overwhelming to arrive at a county court house to research a family’s genealogy. How does one know if the kind of family information needed is filed with probate records, land deeds, or civil court proceedings? This presentation equips researchers to know the four principal types of records in county courthouses and the kinds of genealogical information that each contains. It also gives practical hints to make courthouse visits a productive and enjoyable experience.
