James Duffy, 91, of Vero Beach, passed away on Dec. 8, 2014.
He is survived by his daughter, Darlene Darling (John); son James Duffy (Debbie); four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Ethel and a grandson Brian James Darling.
He was born in New York City and became a resident of Vero Beach in 1975 relocating from Airmont, N.Y. He made his living as a general contractor and was a true craftsman. He served in the U.S Army in Europe during World War II with the 1958th Ord Dep Co. as a heavy automotive equipment operator.
A charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, he held various positions during his 30 years with the church. Being an avid New York Yankee fan, he loved his baseball and softball, from coaching Senior and Colt League baseball, to coaching county softball. He was instrumental in starting and organizing the Vero Beach Codgers softball league for seniors over 55 and he played actively until he was 81.
In March 2014, he was inducted into the Codger Hall of Fame and a memorial is at South County Park. Many friendships were formed in his life and he guided his family throughout his life by teaching, sharing and aiding them in making the proper decisions.
Celebration of his life will be held Jan. 3, 2015, at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to the scholarship fund at Westminster PC or VNA Hospice of Vero Beach. Guestbook may be signed at Lowtherfuneralhome.com.
