Fellsmere attempted burglary suspect arrested in Georgia
GEORGIA – The suspect in an attempted burglary in Fellsmere earlier this month has been arrested in Georgia, according to the Fellsmere Police Department.
The suspect, identified as Haze Tavish Sikes, is accused of breaking into a home on State Street early in the morning of Oct. 12. A dog inside the home barked at the intruder, waking the teen who was sleeping in a nearby bedroom. The teen then scared the would-be burglar out of the home, according to police.
Sikes was arrested in Metter, Ga., on Oct. 16, on warrants for burglary of an occupied dwelling and criminal mischief.
Fellsmere Police investigators determined that Sikes fled to Georgia within 24 hours of the attempted burglary. Sikes took a train from the Amtrak station in Kissimmee to get to Georgia, according to police, in order to seek help from immediate family members.
An off-duty Metter, Ga., police officer spotted Sikes. That officer contacted those on-duty, who responded and arrested Sikes without incident.
While in Metter, Ga., Police custody, Sikes confessed to committing the burglary, according to the Fellsmere Police Department. He also implicated Antwain Jamil Huggins as his “look out” during the attempted burglary.
Fellsmere Police arrested Huggins on Oct. 15 for his role in the burglary. He is still being held at the Indian River County Jail on $15,000 bond.
As for Sikes, he refused to waive extradition to Florida and is currently being held at the Candler County Jail in Georgia. He is tentatively scheduled for an extradition hearing on Nov. 12, Fellsmere Police said.
