Book sale makes way for renovations at Marian Fell Library

FELLSMERE — As part of the Fellsmere Day activities last Saturday, Marian Fell Library opened its doors for the public to come in and purchase certain pieces of its inventory.

Long time volunteer of the historic library and overseer of the library’s children programs Constance Ward manned the cash register during the inventory sale.

Ward said the function of the sale was to “reduce inventory for renovations.”

Though she could not specify exactly what the renovations would entail, she did say they were “mostly structural,” and listed painting and refinishing floors as potential renovations the building would undergo.

“There is a lot of maintenance that goes into an older building,” Ward said.

After a discussion at a previous City Council meeting, council members agreed to approve an inventory sale of items that the library no longer needed.

Historical books, first editions, and historical documents were all left off the list of items that could be sold.

The library, founded in 1915 and named after Marian Fell, the daughter of the city’s founder E. Nelson Fell, is listed as a historical site on the National Register.
