UPDATE: Shyla Nelson concert at Unitarian Universalist canceled

The concert has been canceled.

VERO BEACH — On Friday, Feb. 21, from 8-9 p.m., Shyla Nelson, founder of One Earth. One Voice., will present a program of operatic and classical songs and arias in celebration of the Earth. The music will add emphasis to the themes of the “Healing Our World and Ourselves” Conference that weekend at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach.

Tickets for the concert are $50 or $15 for conference attendees and can be purchased at the door.

An acclaimed classical soprano, Nelson trained at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the MET, and Washington National Opera. Heralded by critics as a soprano of “consummate artistry and vocal grace,” her concert and operatic appearances have delighted audiences across the U.S. and abroad.

In recent years, her work has extended into earth-focused crossover projects, including collaboration with seven-time Grammy Award-winning world musician Paul Winter and his Consort.

In 2012, Nelson took her One Earth. One Voice. campaign on a 99-day trek around the world, walking the earth with a 14-inch diameter glass globe in her arms – a symbol of earth’s frailty, recognizable as such by people of every walk of life, culture and ideological persuasion.

The journey touched six continents and countless lives, bringing together voices in over 70 countries worldwide in a musical and impassioned call for the healing of the earth. Her journey was featured in the Boston Globe, New York Times, BBC Australia, Business Week, and The Nation.

A regular contributor to Huffington Post, Nelson’s forthcoming book, to be released in 2014, tells the story of her journey and its implications for the healing of the planet. She is now preparing for collaborative work with the United Nations.
