Missing swimmer in Vero Beach presumed dead

VERO BEACH – A swimmer that went missing Friday night has been presumed dead by authorities this afternoon. They are now in recovery mode, according to Asst. Fire Chief Brian Burkeen.

The Coast Guard and Indian River County Fire Rescue are participating in the recovery. Authorities are also patrolling the shoreline to see if a body washes up.


June 1, 8:53 a.m. VERO BEACH — A U.S. Coast Guard boat and members of Indian River County Fire Rescue using 4-wheelers, have resumed the search for a 22-year-old man that went missing last night off of South Beach Park.


May 31, 9:25 p.m. VERO BEACH — The search for a 22-year-old man has been called off for the night by authorities.

Coast Guard, Indian River County Fire Rescue, and the Sheriff’s Office searched the waters off of South Beach after receiving a report of a missing swimmer that came in around 6 p.m.
