Gifford man fends off knife-wielding woman with broom stick

GIFFORD – A woman in Gifford was arrested Thursday night after deputies responded to the 2300 block of 42nd Street in reference to a stabbing.

According the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office the victim was still on the phone with 911 while blood dripped from a small puncture wound on his left side.

After Barbara J. Tyler, 42, arrived home, an argument started with her roommate. Tyler accused him of cheating on her, according to the affidavit.

The victim told authorities that Tyler picked up a steak knife and said, “I’ll kill you for (expletive) around on me.”

He then picked up a broom stick and began swinging it, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Tyler then advanced with the knife in her hand. During the struggle, Tyler stabbed the victim.

Tyler faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
