“A Place at the Table” at Majestic Theatre April 25

VERO BEACH — Harvest Food & Outreach Center is inviting the community to share a special evening on April 25; a night at the movies for an exclusive viewing of the landmark documentary “A Place at the Table,” which premiered in a few select markets in early March.

The public is invited to participate locally in the nationwide movement to address hunger.

Harvest is hosting this special event, which is co-sponsored by Keystone Property Management and Renew Insurance Agency, at Majestic Theatre, located at 940 14th Ln. in Vero Beach.

The ticket price is $15, which includes a reception at 5 p.m., movie with popcorn and sodas at 5:30 p.m., to be followed at 7 p.m. by a roundtable panel discussion including local experts discussing “Homegrown Solutions” in our community from Harvest, Treasure Coast Food Bank, Growing Healthy Kids, The Source, The Food Pantry of Indian River County, and School District of Indian River County.

Guests will be invited and encouraged to provide questions for the panel.

Brought to light through this informational and inspirational film is the fact that 50 million people in the U.S. (one in four children) don’t know where their next meal is coming from.

Directors Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush examine the issue of hunger in America through the lens of three people struggling with food insecurity: Barbie, a single Philadelphia mother who grew up in poverty and is trying to provide a better life for her two kids; Rosie, a Colorado fifth grader who often has to depend on friends and neighbors to feed her and has trouble concentrating in school; and Tremonica, a Mississippi second grader whose asthma and health issues are exacerbated by the largely empty calories her hardworking mother can afford.

Ultimately, “A Place at the Table” shows how hunger poses serious economic, social, and cultural implications for our nation, and that it can be solved once and for all if the American public decides that making healthy food available and affordable is in the best interest of us all.

Harvest Food and Outreach Center and its partners are dedicated to this goal.
