Boys & Girls Clubs is seeking volunteers

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The 2012-2013 school year has officially begun and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County are in full swing, welcoming many new faces to their rosters.

With the start of the new school year comes many ways that volunteers can get involved with the Clubs and make a lasting impact on children in our community who need it the most.

Whether serving as a mentor, a tutor, an art aide, or a sports coach, volunteers are needed and welcomed at all three Clubs in our county, one each in Vero Beach, Sebastian and Fellsmere.

The Boys & Girls Clubs is proud to serve nearly 1,500 children in our community each year.

We strive for excellence and provide many programs to our children to ensure their success, both personally and academically.

One program we are particularly proud of is Project Learn. It ensures that 100% of our members participate in academic enrichment activities while attending the Club each day.

Through the program’s Power Hour component, children participate in an intensive homework and tutoring session, allowing them to complete their homework before going home each day and to receive any help needed with their studies.

This is an excellent area for volunteers to spend their time, serving as tutors and mentors to our children who need it the most.

The process of becoming a Boys & Girls Clubs volunteer couldn’t be easier. Call (772) 299-7449 to be connected to the Club in which you’d like to serve.

A volunteer application and background check will be completed prior to your placement. Teen volunteer opportunities, both at the Clubs and through community outreach activities, are also available.

An application must be completed along with written consent of parents or guardians. Space is still available at all three Clubs for students ages 6-18 who would like to become members of the Boys & Girls Clubs for the 2012-2013 school year.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County, a United Way and Children’s Services Advisory Committee agency, provides quality programs that develop citizenship, leadership, and character.

Our Mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
