CAMERA: Playing horseshoes… with my microphone…

I’m not particularly hard on equipment. But, just like driving, you can’t help what others do around you. Recently, I was covering a talent show at a Fellsmere Boys & Girls Club event. Little did I know I was going to get my own laughs from the audience, as well as being afraid for some company equipment.

One of the first acts wrapped up like usual as I’m taking notes.

Then, I hear a thump and notice one of the kids jumping up and down trying to grab at my equipment – at least that’s what I initially thought.

Turns out, between acts, they threw out hats. The first girl that threw one out had a curve that reminded me of my slice in golf.

You guessed it, the hat landed right on my shotgun microphone like a coat rack hook. We’ll need to sign her up to play a private investigator, she already has one aspect of the stereotype-role down.

The kids loved it, but, knowing it was company equipment, I was glad I was still rolling when it happened. I don’t know if anyone would have believed it.
