John Robert Mierow, 80, Sebastian

John Robert Mierow, 80, died on March 23, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Augusta, Wis., coming to Sebastian in 1997 from Homestead.

He was an Air Force veteran and served a year in Korea.

Before retirement, he was employed by the U.S. Treasury Department and spent his career in Miami.

The majority of his career was in Special Enforcement Programs and Strike Force, and was an expert witness for the government in many criminal cases.

He was of the Lutheran faith, a member of the American Legion, VFW and Sebastian Area Veterans’ Honor Guard.

He graduated from Augusta High School and attended the University of Tampa, class of 1960.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Shirley; daughter, Noreen; brother, Bill; and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his son, John.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

A celebration of life service will be at 3 p.m. March 30 at Strunk Funeral Home in Sebastian with the Rev. David A. Charlton officiating.

Interment will be at a later date in Barancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.
