INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — At the May membership dinner, the Junior League of Indian River announced the winners of several annual volunteer awards.

The Junior League of Indian River, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities, through the effective action of trained volunteers.

Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

“Recognizing those for going above and beyond in 2011, is a small way to say thank you, for all that you are doing for our community,” organizers said.

Those honored include:

  • Volunteer of the Year: Amy Harwick
  • Spirit of the League: Amber Hutchinson
  • Angel of the League: Lori Higdon
  • Provisional Member of the Year: Estelle Welte
  • Sustainer of the Year: Elizabeth Westover

The Junior League of Indian River has also announced the new 2011-2012 Board of Directors:

  • Secretary – Anna Gibbs
  • Administrative VP – Tiffany Sweeney
  • Community VP – Brooke Odom

The Junior League of Indian River identifies needs within the community and develops projects that address those needs. Several key events this year will be our annual fundraisers: Oktoberfest and Tour of Homes, that raise funds needed to support our Community Impact Projects which benefit a variety of local organizations, and the Whole Child Connection, the League’s newest ground-floor initiative.
