Local chefs to compete in Fourth Annual Vero’s Top Chef Challenge

VERO BEACH — The Homeless Family Center is proud to announce the 4th Annual Vero’s Top Chef Challenge…It’s All About The Food and The Families competition and fundraising event to benefit homeless families on the Treasure Coast.

This fundraiser is a two-day event which includes the Qualifying Event on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 6:00 pm at Vero Beach Elks Lodge #1774 and the Top Chef Challenge Finale on Monday, February 27, 2012 at 6:00 pm at The Club at Pointe West (venue sponsor).

Chefs will compete to be Vero’s Top Chef 2011 under the direction of Chef Michele Hennessey, owner of River Grille in Sebastian and Chef Coordinator of the event.

At the Qualifying Event, local Chefs will prepare small tastes of their most creative cuisine for 300 guests to sample as they compete for the attendee’s votes. Guests will be asked to cast their vote for the Chef that they believe prepared the best culinary creation. Four Chefs will advance to the Challenge Finale.

The Challenge Finale is the final event with 140 guests at a seated formal dinner consisting of entrees prepared by each of the four Chefs chosen as finalists at the Qualifying Event plus dessert prepared by a guest Chef. The evening will conclude with votes from the guests and three additional Chef Judges, who each have extensive culinary experience, selecting Vero’s Top Chef 2012.

Qualifying Event tickets are $40 per person and Vero’s Top Chef Challenge tickets are $175 per person.

The committee is chaired by Neda Heeter and Cathie Callery . Committee members include: Denise Finizio, Erin Clinton, Mara Riley, Amy Colclough, Frances Garver Tomlinson, Kristen O’Hagan, Angela Morgan, Caroline Collins, Robin Reese, Susan Viviano, Cathy Hart, Jessica Gardner, Melissa Shine, Chef Andrew Keller, Karen Mechling and Chef Michele Hennessey as the Chef Coordinator.

The Homeless Family Center is a partner agency of the United Way and Treasure Coast Homeless Services Council, Inc. The center is located on 4th Street and provides Emergency and Transitional Shelter for homeless families from Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Okeechobee counties.
