Jason E. “Jay” Boynton, 90, Sebastian

Jason E. “Jay” Boynton, 90, died July 19, 2011, at Palm Garden of Vero Beach.

He was born in Plymouth, N.H. and lived in Sebastian for 11 years, coming from Greenland, N.H.

He was a major in the Army during of World War II.

He attended the University of New Hampshire, earning his master’s degree.

He was a teacher, building principal and superintendent of schools.

He was a member of the graduate school facility at the University of New Hampshire, where he taught courses in school administration and served as director of the Center for Educational Field Services.

He was instrumental in creating the Center for Educational Field Studies.

He was a full-time facility member since 1966 and acting chairman of the Education Department in 1981.

He was a lecturer on school law, consulted by legislators, school board members and New Hampshire attorneys.

He was a member of Christ The King Lutheran Church, Sebastian.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Boynton, of Sebastian; sons, Steve Boynton, of Nottingham, N.H., Jay Boynton, of Andover, N.H., and Paul Boynton, of Candia, N.H.; daughter, Elizabeth Boynton, of Portsmouth, N.H.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Boynton; and a granddaughter.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Aug. 4 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Sebastian, with the Rev. Karen Leedahl of Christ The King Lutheran Church officiating.
