Quilters invited to enter Textile Arts Center Juried Quilt Exhibition

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts at Florida Institute of Technology announces its first juried exhibition of art quilts, Florida In Fabric, Wish You Were Here!, which will feature more than 30 original quilts created by Florida artists.

The Funk Center invites Florida artists to submit their quilted visions of the Florida experience by March 16, 2012. Selected quilts will make up the exhibition, which will be on view at the Funk Center, May 19 to Aug. 18, 2012.

Making the selections for the exhibit will be three jurors. They are national artist Yvonne Porcella of Modesto, Calif.; Jeana Elizabeth Brunson, director of the Museum of Florida History in Tallahassee; and quilt scholar and independent curator Gloria Craft Comstock of Gainesville, Fla.

Florida In Fabric will be presented by the Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts to promote an appreciation of quilt making as an art form and to provide Florida quilters with an opportunity to display their quilts in the premier textile arts center in the state. Art accepted for this exhibition will exemplify innovation in quilting and surface design techniques as well as excellence in artistic composition and craftsmanship.
